Energy Transition Summit
War in the Middle East has returned energy security to the top of global agendas. At the same time, more frequent climate-related disruptions are heightening concerns over system resilience. Electricity demand is rising at its fastest pace in decades, driven by the electrification of transport and heating as well as the soaring energy needs of the data centres driving artificial intelligence. In many markets, demand is outpacing the capacity of grids and infrastructure to respond.
In the US, power demand is experiencing its strongest four-year growth period this century, fuelled largely by AI data centres — challenging long-held assumptions about energy demand in developed economies. But changes in US government policy are reversing support for renewables, and causing a surge in oil and gas production.

Globally, fossil fuel consumption hit record highs in 2025, reinforcing the idea that we are in an era of energy addition rather than substitution. However, global clean energy investment also rose last year, to hit $2.2tn in total, with wind and solar scaling rapidly across major economies. China is investing nearly as much as the US and EU combined, and leads manufacturing across much of the clean energy supply chain.
To examine how energy systems are evolving amid this demand growth and geopolitical tension, FT Live is convening its 11th Energy Transition Summit, for senior business decision-makers within the industry, its suppliers, and its customer base. Over two days, they will focus on the structural realities shaping supply, global infrastructure needs, and capital allocation — and solutions to balancing demand with climate and resource concerns.
Key themes
Geopolitics and Energy Security
How should governments and investors manage structural dependence risks without raising costs or slowing the deployment of new energy sources?
Capital Repricing and Risk Allocation
Who carries risk - developers, consumers, taxpayers or the state? What models are helping de-risk investment?
Grid Constraint and System Governance
Transmission backlogs, and the costs of grid balancing and curtailment are rising. Are grid constraints now limiting decarbonisation? Who governs the reform of grid systems?
Energy Addition and Demand Shock
Is the ‘energy transition’ becoming an expansion rather than a substitution? What does credible decarbonisation look like amid structural demand growth?
‘Always On’ Power in the AI Era
Which technologies can deliver constant, reliable capacity at scale? Does AI lock in new gas before nuclear and geothermal scale?
Resilience and Adaptation
How are grids and energy systems being hardened against extreme weather and wildfire exposure — and who pays for this adaptation in a warming world?
